About The Book

MARTIN FRASER

Born in 1961, his mother taught music, while his father worked for the Signals Research and Development Establishment, the Military Research Centre in Christchurch, developing Military communications satellites.
From a young age, he developed a lifelong passion for history, reading, films, music, photography, the natural world and sport, which helped to fuel Martin’s imagination and fill his inquiring mind with possibilities. With both parents, older brother Grenville and uncle, all writers or musicians, it was inevitable that Martin should harbour an artistic seed waiting to germinate and burst onto the world.

Well done on writing such an engaging, inventive and fun novel. The Shadow of the Albatross has a unique premise that has allowed you to explore the complexities of grief, finding purpose, and revenge, all with a good few murders sprinkled throughout.

There are some great set pieces and exciting moments. You have also created a sinister, unique villain. I hope that you will be bringing back a lot of these characters in a second series novel; you’ve left it set up brilliantly to do so.

Struggling to cope after the death of his wife and children, Travers is drawn into the unfolding drama that takes him and Intelligence Officer Alicia Downes to the millionaire playground of the Sandbanks Peninsula in Dorset and an encounter with charismatic billionaire philanthropist, Olga Devereux.
As the plot unfolds, Travers’ MI5 team, led by his boss, Senior Intelligence Officer Charles Stanley and the Metropolitan Police investigating team, commanded by Detective Chief Inspector John Deery, must race against the clock to prevent an international assassination on home soil that will shake Europe.

Martin has written a gripping tale of greed, murder and the different morals of those who would protect their wealth and secrets at any cost – even human lives if deemed necessary. The believable characters and events draw the reader into the action, making for a fascinating Read
All the characters, the main and subsidiary ones, are well drawn and have interesting back stories; I enjoyed reading about them and how they progressed. Each character was quite human and rounded out, with their own unique set of flaws, and their individual voices were clear throughout the book. I think that there could be a sequel here, maybe a series of books, given Devereux’s threat to Travers in one of the last chapter’s scenes.
It is accurate and well-researched, as well as consistent throughout. I like the title of the book, and it is a fascinating and enthralling action/thriller that is tense and gripping throughout as we follow Travers on his journey to capturing the criminals and ensuring they get their just desserts. I feel it will appeal to anyone of any age who enjoys a good crime thriller, and also action series.
